Why do I need to provide FIPS codes for maps in Domo?
Tableau doesn't make me do this.
I think that's the way how the map works in Domo. But if you need the FIPS codes as a data source (so you can use it to join with your own data sources), you can ask Domo Support to create a Domo-Dimensions for you (see below). Hope this helps.
p.s. I asked Domo support about the first row in the data preview, below is their reply...
"The reason that first row exists is because we need all of the data to be coming into Domo as a string, not a number, and this is just to ensure that."
Currently geographic data is powered from FIPS data, and you just need to email [email protected] and we will set up the Zips to Fips datasource for you, this allows you to use Zip codes or States instead of FIPS codes. If you have ideas of how to improve the geographic experience, feel free to post them in the Ideas section of the Dojo on the main page. We would love to hear your feedback!
Customers can add this dataset on their own by following the steps below provided to me from domo support.
We have provided access to this connector to customers, so in the future you can go through the following process if you need this dataset again:1. Navigate to the Data Center2. Click on “Cloud App” next to “Connect Data” in the upper left3. Search for “Domo Dimensions”4. Click “Connect” > “Get the Data”5. From the dropdown, select “zips_to_fips_official.csv6. Complete the connector configuration (the connector does not need to run more than once a day)
