How to exclude current month from a card

I'm creating some cards to report on metrics for last month and some of those are a vertical bar chart for the previous 12 months. 

 

I want to exclude data for this month as it's incomplete and irrelevant.

 

When filtering by date I can only exclude by picking a specific date, not relative such as "this month". 

 

I also tried creating a beast mode for the series to return the date if the month is not equal to this month, but the card wouldn't display anything.

 

Has anyone worked out how to do this before?

FILTER
Difference Month < 0

 

This month is excluded.
